I'm Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes
I really don't know when I
learned "I'm Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes,"
or from what singers. It seems as though I've always known it, but I'm
pretty sure that I didn't know it in the early or middle 1930s. I always
associated the song with World War II when so many were sailing far
over one sea or another, and songs of broken promises were
characteristic of many country songs of that period.
It wasn't until the 1950s that I began attributing
the song to the Carter Family. Would been better for us both if we'd never Oh, I'm thinking tonight of my blue
eyes, Oh, you told me once, dear, that you loved me, When a cold, cold grave shall enclose me,
